A Day in the Park or Two: Krka and Plitvice

Croatia is blessed with seven national parks and two in particular are world renowned.  Krka National Park is just a short hour and half drive from Split and can be reached by bus or rental car.  The park straddles the Krka River and the draw is a series of cascades and waterfalls.  And when you tire of hiking and enjoying the cascades, there is an island monastery and Roman Ruins to take in.

Plitvice National Park is a little longer drive out of Zadar (2 hours) and also sports incredible cascades and lots of hiking trails.  Both parks have a series of boats that ferry tourists from one set of cascades to another.  The only downside to our time in the parks were the hordes of Korean tourists blocking every trail and ruining every photo opportunity.

Quick tip:  get to the parks early to beat the tour buses and the Korean invasion.  All the tour buses will be coming from either Zagreb, Split, or Zadar and will not arrive until 10 or 11am.  If you are out on the water by 8am you can be far ahead of the unwashed masses.  Attached are photos of our day.  The first group are from Krka and the second from Plitvice.
